The End. It is time to officially put this season behind me, and I couldn’t feel more ready for a new start. Today I picked the last of the tomatoes and chose some to gut and harvest seeds from for next year. I will start off next season trying to sprout red, golden, and tri-color cherry tomatoes. The tomatoes that grew this year were really tasty, there just weren’t very many. I heard from my gardening friends that they also had fewer tomatoes than usual this year. This made me feel better at first, like maybe it was a general trend and this year just had funkier weather or fewer pollinators than usual. But according to agricultural reports, “2025 was considered remarkably productive” with “high yields resulting from mild summer temperatures.” Sigh.
That’s okay though, because I feel like this season was really about teaching me more about gardening and preparing me for great future success. I am stronger and feel ready to put my new knowledge to good use. I will spend the off season preparing for an abundance of tomatoes in 2026.
