I’ve not written in a while, I teach and the end of the school year is overwhelming. I am happy to report that my students have grown much more than my tomatoes this year. When the dust from this season’s tumultuous start finally settled, only 11 tomato plants stood tall. Maybe too tall. I have given a few away to fellow gardeners and I now have 8 tomato plants. They are doing okay. They have scragglier branches with fewer leaves than previous seasons, and so far my red and purple heirlooms have only produced a couple flowers. But they are decidedly alive, and the different colored cherry tomatoes have a lot of blooms that look promising. I hope every flower gets pollinated and turns into a healthy and delicious tomato.
