The last couple of days I’ve been smelling a moldy smell, the origin of which eluded me until today. I’ve been flipping all my citrus over trying to catch the usual suspects, but my lemons and tangerines have been in peak condition. However, this morning I noticed the smell becoming stronger the closer I got to my growing station. My heart sank as I got closer. There it was- mold starting to cascade over the cardboard plots that hold up each toddler tomato plant. They have already been through far too much in their young lives. I spread them out under the grow lights and opened my sliding glass door, hoping the light and air flow would dry out the mold trays and solve everything by the time I got home from work. It did not.
Mold was still overtaking the cardboard and soil, but my home no longer smelled like mold. A small victory. I carefully extracted all tomatoes that were in danger zones and replanted them in remaining spots of the plastic trays. Hopefully it was quick enough to save them. I am down to 19 seedlings.
